A NEW BEGINNING - A BETTER LIFE

Unlike our last month's story of Bruno, we decided to write a story with a happy ending this time. It was the morning of 2nd May that a white Pomeranian bitch aged about 3 years was found tied to our shelter gate. An unknown person had adandoned it. It was found to be suffering from stomatitis (ulcers on the tongue). Saliva was drooling from the mouth and so it was restless. It was put in isolation for the prescribed period and treated for the tongue infection. It responded well to treatment and it recovered in a week’s time. Intake of food and water became normal. It was then introduced to the other dogs at the shelter after the 14 days of isolation.

We named her Miss. Mini because she looked so dainty and prim and proper. Miss. Mini was indeed a very friendly dog and we were very eager that she finds a happy home where she would be loved and cared for as was her due. She in no time had won all our hearts. Luckily for her, a cousin brother of Mr. Suresh Kateria, our shelter manager, was on the lookout for a pet. On 22nd May Mr Jai Bhargava visited the shelter and he was more than eager to take her home. All formalities were completed and he became the proud owner of Miss Mini.

On 30th May, the shelter manager visited his house and reported to us that  the daughter of Mr. Bhargava and Miss Mini. are the best of friends and Miss Mini is very happy in her home.

We do have our fair share of sad stories but when things end happily we get a morale boost - Hope is still there. All is not lost yet.

Abandoned dog ?

A dog sits waiting in the cold autumn sun, Too faithful to leave, too frightened to run,
He's been here for days now with nothing to do

But sit by the road waiting for you,
He can't understand why you left him that day,

He thought you were stopping to play,
He's sure you'll come back and that's why he stays

How long will he suffer? How many more days???
His legs have grown weak, his throat is parched and dry ,

He's sick now from hunger and falls with a sigh,
He lays down his head and closes his eyes,
I wish you could see how a waiting dog dies.

  • This month has been one full of crisis. One of our para-vets has been diagnosed with a Kidney ailment. He has been on sick leave since the second week of the month. There is only one para-vet in operation. He is managing the shelter and the field calls.
  • To top it our only vet Dr Pachauri had a heart attack and so he  is out of active action. He too has been advised complete bed rest . He may or may not come back. Earlier our lady vet had  proceeded on maternity leave . We were left with no veterinary doctor. We had to hire a new doctor  at a higher salary which will further strain our resources.
  • Our ABC operations were going on in full swing. We had to stop for a week till we hired the new doctor. We are now back in action.
