MILTON - A
BLIND DOG
It was an
unfortunate day of 25th Nov 2009
that a blind dog suffering an eye infection was left in the
neighborhood of PFA Agra by some
unknown person. I was on my way to the shelter and saw a blind dog
standing on the road side alone. No one was there. We stopped the car and
reached the spot and understood the whole situation. The staff was
immediately alerted.
The dog was taken to the shelter. It
was suffering from the chronic purulent conjunctivitis. Both the eyeballs
were totally damaged. So it was decided to remove both the
eyeballs otherwise more damage to the adjoining area would
occur.
On 26th Nov
2009, after 24 hours, the eye operation
was performed. It was a total success. The pet was fed on milk and strong
antibiotic coverage was given for speedy recovery. After 10 days the
stitches were removed.
After complete quarantine period the
dog was left in the company of the other two blind dogs of the shelter.
That happened almost a year back. Today,
MILTON is still
with us. He is a permanent resident of PFA Agra. The 3 blind dogs,
including Milton see each
other with the help of touch and smell. They are all taken out for a walk
once a day.
Although it is sad to know that Milton is
permanently blind now, but still, since he is with us inside the safe
premises of the shelter, he has a better life than most blind dogs on
streets who are hungry, dying a slow death with no one to take care of
them.
