BABY MONKEY

On the 24th of July a sadhu (an ascetic holy man) brought a small baby monkey who was orphaned. The cause of his sad circumstance was nothing new. The skyline of Agra is dominated by electric cables which besides being ugly are potential hazards for all, especially during the rainy season. The mother of this baby monkey also became the victim of these high tension wires. The mother died leaving behind this young baby.

This sadhu was passing by when he saw the unconscious baby monkey. He discovered that it too was burnt. It had scars on the face. He brought it to the shelter for treatment.

We admitted it and began treatment. Everyone in the shelter was moved by its plight for it kept crying for its mother. We tried to win it over. At first it was scared of us. Then very slowly, being lonely, it  came  to us and it finally allowed us to pick it up and pet it. It was in the shelter till the 28th July. During the course of the treatment, the sadhu came everyday to the shelter to enquire about the progress of this baby monkey. Fortunately recovery was fast and finally the sadhu, who lives in a nearby temple, decided to adopt it and look after it. He is a follower of Lord Hanuman (an Indian monkey God worshipped by many Hindus - picture on the right) and we are sure that the baby will be truly looked after by him.

  • The period of May end till 6th July (Zoonosis Day), we held camps in various parts of Agra to vaccinate the dogs of that area with anti-rabies vaccine. The same areas are taken every year and members residing in those areas help us. In total we vaccinated 79 dogs on the streets.
  • The contsruction activity in the shelter is in full swing which is funded by the grant of Shri HK Dua, member of the Rajya Sabha
